Description

This is yet another in the series of images of the Orion Molecular Cloud Complex I've been working on this winter. This is the fourth post from that project. This wide field image was taken at a focal length of 150 mm. The Orion Nebula (M42), M43, the Running Man Nebula, the Flame nebula, and a hint of the Horsehead Nebula are visible.

Image was taken with a Nikon D5100 DSLR, Nikon Series E 75-150 mm zoom lens at 150 mm and F/5.6, ISO800 mounted to a Skywatcher Star Adventurer Mini (SAM) mount. I've been struggling with light pollution gradients in my wider field images and still have a long way to climb up the learning curve of astro-imaging/processing. For this imaging session, I used an Optolong L-Pro light pollution filter. This seems to help, but there were still some nasty gradients that were difficult to process out. This image consists of 69x30s and 150x45 subs calibrated with dark, flat, and bias frames and stacked in DSS for a total integration time of 2hrs 26 min 30 sec. Final image was post-processed using Startools (Binned to 75% of original size, wiped to remove gradients, developed (stretched), contrast adjusted, HDR processed, color adjusted, and noise reduced).
